The Collier County Sheriff’s Office tracked down a girl who threatened to kill herself on a webcam, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office reports. Collier County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call at 2:31 a.m. Friday from a caller in Texas who said he was watching a girl in Naples on a webcam who was threatening to kill herself with a knife.

It once again resembled election season outside Marco Island City Hall Monday afternoon as citizen Joe Granda handed out buttons saying “Give Steve a chance” and “I support Steve Thompson.” Granda said the buttons were made by “concerned citizens” over the weekend when Islanders heard rumors of an attempted “coup” to oust City Manager Steve Thompson upon his six month performance review by City Council.

Renaissance Village will not become a city-owned park. Naples City Council today opted not to pursue a proposal to acquire up to 17.5 acres of the Renaissance Village property. Council members said they did not feel comfortable moving forward because of the current economy. Council last month heard a proposal on possibly acquiring a portion of Renaissance Village, a 22-acre parcel of land on Goodlette-Frank Road and Fifth Avenue South. The city has expressed some interest in purchasing a portion of the property and converting it to a public park.
